Have you ever found yourself having to choose between pads or peanut butter at the supermarket? Between tampons or toothpaste

Ever had to stay home instead of showing up at school, work (or somewhere else) because you couldn’t afford period products?

The problem

Period poverty happens across Amsterdam, every single day.*

In 2024, we showed the current reality through quantitative research.

Nearly 1 in 3 people in Amsterdam aged 15-49 who menstruate struggled to pay for period products or went without altogether. That adds up to over 56,000 people.

1 in 7more than 28,000 Amsterdammers – simply could not afford the products they need

This isn’t just an uncomfortable by-product of poverty.

It’s unjust. In Amsterdam, it impacts lives in serious ways:*

  • 9,000 people had to stay home for the duration of their period
  • 26,000 cut back on groceries
  • 13,000 cut back on hygiene products
  • 18,000 reported mental health effects
  • 15,000 reported physical health impacts
  • 1,000s more cut back on other essentials like medicine, school supplies, and household items

This is unacceptable – in Amsterdam or anywhere.

But YOU can spark change today

When you help us distribute period products, you’re doing so much more than covering the cost of pads or tampons.

You’re contributing to people’s dignity, inclusion, confidence, and well-being.

You’re helping create more opportunities at school and work, and better menstrual health.

And together, we work toward a world where no one’s held back because of their period.

What we do

Neighborhood Feminists has been tackling period poverty since 2019. In 2021, we launched our Menstruation Stations, self-serve cabinets strategically placed across Amsterdam for those in need.

And our 65 Stations work: thanks to NF’s direct aid, advocacy, and research, Amsterdam’s period poverty has dropped by half in just two years.

But periods don’t stop. Neither can our Stations. That’s why we’re kicking off our 2025 donation campaign today. In the coming 8 days leading to International Menstrual Health/Hygiene Day (May 28), we’re aiming to raise €2,500 to stock each of our 65 Menstruation Stations with an average of €38 worth of products.

Whether across the Netherlands or in Amsterdam, everyone deserves to menstruate with dignity.

How you can help

100% of all donations goes toward purchasing period products for a minimum of 825 people for one full cycle!

Whether you give €10 or €50, you’re giving the gift of confidence and well-being by helping someone access a basic, essential need, without stigma or barriers.

To reach our €2500 fundraising  goal, this message has to reach a lot of people throughout our 8-day campaign! Inspire your friends by sharing why you donated.*

Throughout the campaign, you can easily continue to amplify our call, including by sharing posts directly via WhatsApp or Signal.
